Adelaide: The West End!

Who remembers Rowley Park Speedway? The Clipsal Factory? If you’re from Adelaide, you know exactly where they were, right? Gone but not forgotten, they’ve made way for inner-city community housing, local markets and entertainment venues. Let’s take a look at what’s new in Adelaide’s “West End”.

Bowden – Life More Interesting

West End. Adelaide. South Australia.
Introducing Bowden – Life More Interesting in Business Review.

A newly developed residential hub overlooking parklands, minutes to the city centre and achieving 6 stars in the green star rating, Bowden – Life More Interesting is all about living life to the full.

Free public transport to the city is a short walk away, restaurants and bars cater to the community and events in green spaces are entertaining the residents. From originally housing the Clipsal factory, Bowden life has become far more interesting.

Bowden – Plant 4 Market

West End. Adelaide. South Australia.
Plant 4 Market, Bowden.

Within Bowden – Life More Interesting, Plant 4 Market opens twice weekly, Wednesdays from 4 pm – 9 pm and Saturdays 9 am – 3 pm. Buy your organic veg, meat, dried and fresh fruit, nuts, spices, tea and jams or head there for some scrumptious ready-to-eat offerings.

Visit the massive paella pan, savour pasta or risotto from Francesco’s Venetian Soul Food, hook into freshly made Japanese pancakes or have the girls at the vego stall pile your plate high with their tofu, mushrooms, corn fritters and guacamole. Cheesy, spinach and lamb filled gozleme can’t be beaten after a big night and there are waffles, house-made ice-cream and other treats too.

One stall not to miss is Remedy Herbals. If you’re experiencing difficulty sleeping, things are a bit crazy in your life, you’re stressed/ anxious or you just need a general pick me up, try their herb and honey compounds. They’re just inside the north-west entrance at Plant 4 or go direct to the source at the Ayurvedic Health Care Centre in Blight Street a couple of blocks away.

Palais on Hawker

Beer Tasting @ Palais on Hawker, Bowden.

After all that wonderful nosh at Plant 4, do you have the taste for a couple of quiet beers? Palais on Hawker is a tasting room and brew shop brought to you by the guys at Palais Distributing Company, importers of fine craft beers.

Expect 4 rotating taps and a wall of fridges full to bursting with brews from Australia, Canada, the States and Japan. Their daily 3 brew tasting paddle is free to get you started, then you can choose from the taps or fridges. There’s a takeaway minimum for their distribution licence but it’s no more than you’d buy anyway.

The Wheatsheaf Hotel

West End. Adelaide. South Australia.
Fixation IPA on tap @ The Wheaty, Thebarton.

Minutes from the CBD find the Wheatsheaf Hotel, affectionately known as “The Wheaty”. Celebrating their 15th year and induction into the AMC Venue Hall of Fame, the Wheaty is a true beer, whisk(e)y and music lover’s haven. Don’t expect a gastropub menu, instead, The Wheaty encourage food trucks to park out front while inside they focus on serving splendid beers brewed through The  Wheaty Brewing Corp.

Check out what’s in the glasshopper. They add hop flowers, spices, herbs, coffee, fruit, quite frankly, anything they think will be tasty, into the stainless steel infuser, then pour your beer through it.

The wine list can hold it’s own concentrating on “smaller regional-based production” and for the whisk(e)y drinkers, there’s Bourbon barrel matured, heavy on the peat, Irish, Rye and sherry barrel matured. Not quite sure? Have a “flight” of 3 snifters or chat to whoever’s working the bar, they’ll look after you.
