Palm Garden Resort Review. Hoi An, Vietnam!
Welcome to our review of Palm Garden Resort, Hoi An.
Surrounding the mouth of the Thu Bon River where it flows to the East Vietnam Sea, Hoi An has both riverside and beachfront accommodation across all star ratings. Palm Garden Resort & Spa won out in our search so let’s take a tour.
Hoi An in Vietnam’s Quang Nam province was an important trading centre during the 16th and 17th centuries. Home to UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ancient Town (or Old Town), Hoi An is now a bustling tourist hub.
The Entrance.
Palm Garden Resort’s entrance is impressive. The open-air reception on the right melts into glimpses of gardens and pool as the culdesac curves past Contino Bar and returns to the entrance. At check-in, passports are swapped for refreshing tropical welcome drinks and cold towels.
The Room.
One of the drawcards at Palm Garden Resort is the room size. At almost 50M2, there is little chance of claustrophobia. Additional balcony space, or lawn for ground floor accommodation, extends the room substantially.
All power outlets are universal, there’s a widescreen LCD TV (as if you’ve come to watch that!) but it’s the tub that demands attention. Sunken into the bathroom floor with a view through the bedroom out to sea, an immediate image of bubbles appears – both in the bath and in a glass.
A teensy drawback is the room’s open shower. A fabulous concept, but in execution, the gradient of the floor doesn’t quite allow for the water flow which seeps onto the bathroom’s main floor. A small issue, yet noticeable.
The Grounds.
Out on the 5 hectares of meticulously manicured grounds, there’s plenty to keep you amused.
The pool, an unusual design (picture Mickey Mouse ears) separates leisure swimmers from game playing children. Sun lounges are plentiful and shady nooks around the pool provide seclusion for holiday reading.
Double tennis courts keep the fit and competitive occupied while water sports from jet skis to catamarans are available from the private beach.
The Spa.
A visit to Palm Spa is essential. Surrounded by tropical plants and soothing water features, refreshments are served before and after treatments. On our visit, a special package including 60-minute body massage, 60-minute deep cleansing facial, and a mani/ pedi or hair treatment set us back just 1,500,000 VND (US$66 at time of publishing)
The Restaurants.
The breakfast buffet is one the hotel is proud of and well they should be. Catering to Asian and European tastes, cooking stations freshly prepare phô, banh mi and eggs all ways. Fresh tropical fruits, baguettes baked on the premises, cold meats & cheeses and, of course, the pastries!
Breakfast is served in the Terrace Restaurant in air-conditioned comfort or out on the breezy deck with birds in the trees for company.
Colibri, with its bow designed roof pointing out to sea, offers a wide range of Vietnamese classics next to western favourites. Servicing the pool area, offering a casual lunch menu then morphing into a romantic evening dining experience, Colibri is Palm Garden Resort’s central entertainment area overlooking Cua Dai Beach.
The Bars.
Breeze Bar, right on Cua Dai Beach, opens from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Watch the sun sink into the sea while enjoying 2 for 1 cocktails, wine & selected beers during Happy Hour from 6 – 8 pm.
Happy Hour extends to Contino Club Bar should the breeze at Breeze bar be a little too breezy. Return to Contino Club Bar after dinner to kick on while Jessie & Janice entertain.
Across the Road.
There’s no real need to leave Palm Garden Resort’s tropical oasis, but if the mood takes you, an easy stroll across the road will introduce you to Mi Casa.
Chung, her mother, father, and husband, welcome their guests like family and cook up some of the most delicious Vietnamese classics with their fresh spring rolls the best we’ve eaten hands down.
The prawns are steamed to order, par-cooked pork is finished over charcoal, Chung carefully adds the salad then closes the parcel. The cold crunch of salad contrasts deliciously with tender, warm pork & fresh prawn. These take a little longer than most but they’re definitely worth the wait.
Mi Casa also has a cost-effective laundry service and a small shop selling all and sundry.
Palm Garden Resort is perfect for a beach stay in Hoi An. A complimentary shuttle from the hotel on the hour, the 10-minute taxi or 20-minute bike ride makes Old Town very convenient. With tropical gardens, colourful birds, frogs & cute geckos minimising the mozzie situation, Palm Garden Resort is worth a look on your next trip to Hoi An.

I am just picking a destination to meet up with my mother half way between Estonia and Australia and have been given Vietnam some serious thought. Your review of this beautiful hotel has given me courage to look into Vietnam and possibly Palm Garden resort for my next holiday. Awesome stuff!
Cheers Kreete, that’s fantastic. I hope you & your mum enjoy Vietnam as much as we do. Let me know if you need any further info. 🙂
This is a nice place for a relaxing and rejuvenating stay. The spa looks like a real indulgence for the senses. All in all the promise of some great times.
Palm Spa was fabulous. So relaxing and tucked away in a tranquil part of the gardens to avoid disturbance. Such a great thing to take advantage of when on vacation! 🙂
Palm Garden Resort looks like the perfect place to stay in Hoi An. I don’t think I’d want to leave the resort but if I did the complimentary shuttle sounds perfect!
If the shuttle bus is ever full they arrange for a taxi free of charge, James. Very accommodating! 🙂
The garden and the SPA are the first things I love of Palm Garden Beach Resort & Spa. I’m sure it’s the right place to relax and spoil yourself.
Kicking back at Breeze bar with a cocktail at Happy Hour is a pretty good way to relax and spoil yourself too. 😉
What a gorgeous hotel! That spa treatment is a steal! Definitely a place to check out in the future.
I agree, I wish I could get spa treatments at home for that value, I’d have a weekly booking! 😉

Looks like a lovely place to stay! #feetdotravel
Most definitely Tracy!
Wow, sorry I missed this hotel on my visit to Vietnam. It seems I need to visit Hoi An and I would definitely stay here. You had me at sunk in-room tub and mickey mouse ears shaped pool. I pinned this for later. #feetdotravel
Oh yes, the sunken tub (& bubbles) is a definite drawcard. I’d definitely stay at Palm Garden Beach Resort again and most definitely visit the spa again. 🙂
This hotel looks fantastic. It’s great to have a big room and the bath tub would sell it to me! When I can, I like to opt for rooms with a balcony, as I love to sit out and watch the world go by. I will definitely checks this out, should I make it to Vietnam 🙂
Please do Sam. It was a great place to base ourselves. We often comment with smaller rooms that it doesn’t matter, we’re hardly in the room, but when we do jag a room that has so much space it really is lovely. 🙂
Fabulous looking part of the world. Definitely going into the must see list.
Vietnam in general is becming more of a favourite every city I visit. Hoi An was so gorgeous and has so much to see and do. I’ve just posted on Ancient Town today. Have a read when you get the chance. 🙂
This looks a fantastic hotel we would love to stay here! The open plan concept reminds us of some hotels we have stayed in in Thailand, funny you say about the water not draining from the bathroom as this seems to be a common problem in this part of the world! Great post. #feetdotravel
Thanks Paul and Carole. The open plan of the room and the open spaces of the resort are lovely. It’s a great place to stay in Hoi An with the beach and easy access to Ancient Town. We really enjoyed it, even with the wet bathroom floor. 😉
Yikes! This hotel is the bomb! That night shot of the entrance is great. Reminds me of some of the nice hotels we stayed while visiting Thailand. I felt like we were staying in a little palace. Would like to see that Mickey Mouse ears pool. #feetdotravel
I tried for a shot of the pool Ruth but think I need a drone to get the full effect. LOL! I do love the hotels in Asia, the service certainly makes you feel like royalty in some places. This was a well priced and beautiful place to park ourselves for a few days. 🙂
Wow! Looks awesome. Wish I had known about this place when we were at Hoi An. We loved Hoi An!
We loved Hoi An too Kelly. Next week’s post is on Ancient Town and the riverside. I’d love to do more eploring of the area. 🙂
Last year I visited there. what a great place it is! The hotel rooms are well cleaned and well decorated. The great thing of there is the palm spa. After taking the body massage I felt totally relaxed. amazing spa. the service of the restaurant was also good. really it’s a wonderful place to visit.
It is a lovely resort, I agree Lisa. The staff were very friendly and accommodationg and the spa was delightful. I’m pleased you enjoyed yourself! 🙂
Looking forward to dropping in during our trip
Say Hi to Chung and her family for me if you pop across to Mi Casa. I crave those cold rolls every day! 😉
Lovely recommendations! I will put this on my list of places to stay next time I visit Hoi An 🙂
If it’s beach access and open spaces you’re after, Nomad, then PGBRS is worth a look. Tours can be arranged to Marble Mountains, Hue and My Son, or locally, cycling, fishing and farming. It’s a lovely part of the world. 🙂
Loved staying here. The staff were great and the open-air tropical feel was so relaxing.
I’m still thinking about the spa! 😉
