Mannum: Experience Absolute Bliss with White Houseboats!
How does trading in your alarm clock for waking with the birds sound? What about swapping busy street traffic for paddle steamers and ferries or being surrounded by native wildlife, raw landscapes and lush vegetation? If this sounds like “Absolute Bliss” then White Houseboats Mannum, are for you.
Located about an hour from Adelaide’s CBD, Mannum Waters Marina is the launch pad for a weekend, week or more on any one of White Houseboats’ luxury fleet.
There’s no need to give up your mod-cons for this experience; you’ll have all the creature comforts you’re used to, plus a few more.
Brendan Taylor is at the helm of White Houseboats Mannum and clearly loves his vocation. After many years in the hectic Sydney real estate game, Brendan’s chance vacation in beautiful South Australia initiated a sea change, or, is that a “river change”? 😉
Beginning with Flat White, White Houseboats Mannum is now a fleet of 5 with Dream Weaver, White Water, River Breez and Absolute Bliss keeping Flat White company.
Dream Weaver & River Breez.
Dream Weaver and River Breez are the babies of the fleet, yet sleep eight comfortably in their 3-bedroom plus sofa bed configuration.
Front to back open plan living allows full starboard (right side) views, while their manageable size provides easy maneuverability.
Absolute Bliss.
Absolute Bliss houseboat is the latest to receive a gas heated spa on its generous sundeck. This 10-12 berth beauty has all the conveniences dreams of permanent river life are made of.
Complete with two full-size fridge/ freezers, six burner stove, large oven and dishwasher, Absolute Bliss also has a convenient back deck W.C. and shower for mornings when both bathrooms are occupied.
Flat White.
Flat White‘s six private bedrooms are equipped with LCD TVs and DVD players in case the weather turns.
Although, it’s far more likely you’ll be cranking the ice machine and utilising the additional top deck helm on beautiful sunny days.
Whitewater.
Whitewater takes luxury to the next level where four bedrooms are appointed with ensuites. The sundeck, complete with a second helm, is equipped with a full bar including dishwasher.
The retractable gangplank takes the pressure off mooring, and the designer kitchen with granite benchtops and stainless steel appliances makes dining prep a breeze.
Onboard.
Each boat is kitted out with bed linen, towels, cutlery, crockery, BBQ and tools.
Plenty of storage, refrigeration, eskies, seating and lounging areas are provided plus a coffee machine for your morning ritual and a spa to loosen tired muscles after an arduous day of relaxing.
Getting There.
A security coded retractable gate at Mannum Waters Marina ensures your vehicle’s safety while onboard, or why not have Brendan collect you in his eight-seater luxury van from Adelaide Airport or the CBD?
On the way, Brendan takes you to the new Frewville Foodland on Glen Osmond Road for supplies and Liquorland nearby for your libations.
If this sounds like too much work, contact Angie from Floating Gourmet, and she’ll stock the boat with your selected items from her list of 55,000!
Brendan is also happy to include a stop through the Adelaide Hills at historic Hahndorf for wine tasting, a spot of lunch or a meander down Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement’s main street to absorb its beauty.
On Arrival.
Kris and Andrew greet you at Mannum Waters Marina. Kris takes care of the hiring contract’s small print, gives a once over of the boat highlighting any idiosyncrasies and a rundown of appliances.
Andrew covers maintenance issues and familiarises you with mechanics before taking you out for a dummy run and handing you the wheel.
Whoever’s driving needs a non-restricted driver’s license, and a couple of reasonable knot tiers should be aboard for mooring.
There’s a Murray River Pilot onboard for navigation (that’s a book, not a person) which highlights snags, great moorings, places of interest and General Stores along the way to replenish supplies.
Getting Underway.
Official houseboat pick up time is 3-pm and “show outs” are staggered between the five boats taking about 60-90 minutes to complete thoroughly.
With this in mind, a comfortable first night can be found moored in front of Mannum Club where the kitchen pumps out quality pub favourites and a specials board for more adventurous palates.
You may even get lucky and win a meat tray kindly donated by Mount Pleasant Butcher.
A couple of suggestions.
To fully appreciate this section of the Murray River’s morning glory, take to the river with the birds.
White Houseboats are planning personalised winery and pub tours so speak to Brendan before confirming your plans. He’ll share locations to moor for ease of collection for the tours.
If you haven’t experienced the beautiful Murray River on a houseboat, add it to your “must do” list.

Thank you Afisindhu 🙂
I would seriously love to do this! There is something soothing and romantic about cruising along a river with the sounds of nature all around you, I love it! I never thought of doing this before, how silly of me. Pinned this post for when we return to Oz! #FeetDoTravel
Definitely try to find the time, Angie. It’s such a relaxing week moseying along, dropping in where ever and jumping in the kayak to explore the backwaters. We had a sensational time. 🙂
I actually stayed on a houseboat on the Murray River for a week but I didn’t get a chance to travel down it. This would be incredible and I didn’t realise you can do river travel in so much luxury! Those hot tubs would be amazing. Really cool experiencem thanks for sharing!
It was really cool, Lexx. Everything onboard you could possibly want and being able to pick up sticks and move to a new spot for more incredible scenery every day was fantastic. We loved every minute! 🙂
[…] morning, and welcome to your Murray River Houseboat […]
I would like to take the boat down the river for all the reflection photography I could make. I could make it from sat in the heated spa! Combining the boat trip with pub and wine tours sounds like a genius idea!
I think you’d love the photographic opportunities, James. There’s not a lot of architecture but there’s some stunning scenery. I agree the pub and wine tours collected from the boat are going to be extremely popular. 🙂
I had heard of the houseboats on Murray river, but had no idea one could enjoy it in such luxury! The name Flat White is catchy haha! Id love to experience this idyll you described one day!
I can highly recommend it, Kreete. It’s a home away from home with ever-changing scenery. 🙂
Dwayne and I have decided that once we have had enough of living on a boat in the ocean we are going to live in a house boat on the Murray. Love this place. Great post.
You just struck a cord of envy in me, Kelly. We’d love to do the same! 🙂
Wow! This would be such a great way to enjoy the river. I have some friends who have a houseboat that they use all summer long on various lakes. It makes me very envious!
I really had an overwhelming desire to stay on it for a very long time. Alas, we had to return it. 😉
If you and Joe ever get the chance, Carmen, especially on the Murray River, don’t hesitate and let me know all about it! 🙂
Holy moly! This is an awesome houseboat! Have to admit it looks way better than my apartment. I have never been in one of these but it will be cool to rent one with friends. I think you can rent some to ride the Colorado River. Now, I do not think they would be as nice as these. #feetdotravel
It’s pretty special isn’t it, Ruth. I love the floor to ceiling windows and the sliding doors from each bedroom onto the deck. Add it to your list next time you’re in Aus! 🙂
This sounds like such a lovely and exciting trip! That boat looks so spacious inside! Great read 😀 thank you! #FeetDoTravel
There is so much room on these boats, Samantha, you could easily live on one. We spent a week dreaming of that possibility. 😉
This sounds like an amazing experience! This has definitely made the list for when we get back to Australlia!
Fantastic Ben. Let us know how it goes! 🙂
Sounds like pure luxury on the Murray River! Thanks for sharing for this week’s #feetdotravel!
We enjoyed it immensely, Vicky. 🙂
Oh wow! These houseboats look and sound amazing! I would love to do this one day and wake up to the sounds of birds! #Feetdotravel
I can highly recommend it, Lolo! Although it’s early, waking up with the birds is way better than an alarm clock. Grabbing a coffee and reclining on the top deck watching nature go about its business is pure joy. 🙂
Excellent article. We can vouch for all the above comments.
Thanks, Golden Oldies. Living on the river itself must delight you every day! 🙂
What an ideal getaway from the daily grind! White Houseboats goes into the New Years must -do list. Thank you for sharing this great escape!
It’s really is such a fantastic getaway, Daniel. In the next article, we cover the sights and scenery of this beautiful part of the Murray River. Stay tuned for next week’s article. 🙂
